Omeletting You In On A Secret

Do you enjoy my cheesy pun? I just enjoyed my first omelet! So much hard work, sweat, tears, and cheese went into the making of this puppy. And boy it was delicious! It was only cheese and baby tomatoes too! I'm exciting to master this new art form; my newest Everest:

Let Light Fall

Abby and I had a blast playing with my new lighting last night. We didn't realize that over two hours had gone by!

Spring Fresh

Yesterday Dylan and I made yummy smelling perfume! It's so easy and there's a number of different ways to do so. One way, is to boil small increments of water and drop in the oils you want, and then let them fuse together. Another is to mix the oils with some form of alcohol, specifically Vodka. We've successfully made deodorant sprays with the boiling water technique but yesterday Dylan made mine simply with bottled water.

First we went to Down To Earth in Downtown Wilmington (which is the best place in town to shop for anything relating to smells!) and got some Coconut, Nag Champa, and Peppermint Eucalyptus oils. You can use any mix of oils you like. I wouldn't suggest just using one oil though because you wouldn't have much depth to your fragrance.

Next we added a few droplets of each into a previously used perfume bottle. Any spray bottle would work! Be sure not to dump all of your oils in; a tiny bit goes a very long way.

Test the smell to see if you think it's lacking anything.

Fill it up with water, shake it, and  voila! (Side note: Avoid using sink/tap water. We only used a little bit and the quickly realized that bottled water was much better.)

Shake it up well before you use it and done! It smells fantastic! Very beachy, but my favourite part is the little kick of peppermint in it. Also, because it's only water and essential oils, it's safe to put on your skin as opposed to all of the extra chemicals in commercial perfume products. Not to mention, I put some of it in my hair last night and check out how deliciously curly it was today:

Pretty exciting. I highly encourage you all to make some creations of your own and I'd love it if you shared your own recipes on here for others!

HUGE Third Sun Announcement!

Third Sun will be starting an online Etsy boutique in the next month/month-and-a-half! I'm so excited and have some exciting things in the mix. The store will feature my own creations as well as some other local designers. I'll also be taking custom orders for specific designs.  For now we'll only be delivering locally until it really takes off. Then we'll go bigger! Thanks so much for your support guys! Be on the lookout for Third Sun coming soon!

Wallflower

Dylan got into my new projector too, literally:

The Colourshow

So this little missy found a projector in her attic last night! Unfortunately, it's not a film projector, but I used the colour filters I have for my strobe light and made my room different colours! I'm thinking of printing out some cool pictures and patterns onto a few transparency papers and going crazy with it. I'm so pumped. Here's a photo from my night. (Excuse the absurd expression. It was 12 and I was sleepy.)

Fantastic Saturday

It was such a perfect day. I got to enjoy an early morning bike ride with my friend Abby, which was absolutely marvelous. It was so warm that I had to take off my denim and my scarf! I was also greeted by my wonderful boyfriend, Dylan, with a huge bouquet of flowers that he and his mom put together so beautifully for me for Valentine's Day/our year-and-a-half-aversary, and now my room smells amazing. Then I made a mighty tasty sandwich: Rosemary chicken with fresh yellow pepper on toasted whole grain bread. After lunch, Dylan and I went and loaded up on the best incense (I decorated my bottles with mine). I also got to snuggle up with the best puppy ever (ahem, Jane). And finally, we met up with our friend, Josh, and lost our Bingo-virginities together. It was so much fun... and completely addicting. Here is my shout out to LaTisha, our Bingo breadwinner who taught us how to play- YOU MY GURL.

Twas A Splendid Evening

Last night my best friend and I went to a local wine and art gallery in Downtown Wilmington called Bottega to see a friend of ours, Hunter Wilson, play a set, as well as Joshua Brady Smith, and Old North State of Durango, Colorado! They were all fantastic and it was such a fun time! I would highly recommend you all do your ears some good by checking them out.

Saturday MUST: Hit The Road

Pack up the car and get going! Where? Anywhere. It could be to a new spot off a nature trail, a nifty little antique shop, or even a day trip to another town. It doesn't matter where, just go. Don't make plans, turn off your phone and go experience the world and look at it from a new perspective. Become inspired and do something great with it. Now, vamoose!

Wednesday night local musicians gathered at The Soapbox for its Open Mic Night which happens downstairs every week! My boyfriend's band Villa Verde was playing and I had the opportunity to take pictures, sway along to sweet tunes, and hang out with some long lost friends. It was glorious.

Paint It Black

Had a fun time with my gorgeous friend, Sarah today. I got to play with her hair, do her make up, and do a little black and white shoot of her. What more could I ask for it to be a perfect Thursday afternoon? Check out how sassy she looks:

DIY: Infinity Scarf

Although Spring is well on it's way and quite a relief from the cold weather, it still has its chilly days! So, the best way to stay warm with style is definitely a scarf that you can just throw on when you're cold and throw off when it heats up. I love infinity scarfs, but I cannot believe how expensive they are, especially when I know how easy it is to make myself! It's so simple:

All you'll need is 60 inches of fabric, fabric scissors, measuring tape, pins, and a needle and thread.
Measure 60 inches long, and 9-12 inches wide from the fold. (Lengths/widths may vary according to your preference)
Cut the fabric straight down the edge, NOT along the fold.
Pin the edges together, and sew a 5/8" seam down the long side of the fabric.
Once you're finished sewing, your scarf should like like the picture above.
Next, pull the scarf right side out, so that the seam is on the inside.
Now, this part may be confusing, but have faith! With the seam in the middle facing towards you, begin to turn the scarf inside out, but stop when the edges meet. Now the inside seam should be showing again. You want to line up the seam at the top holes so that the scarf doesn't twist.
Next, sew a 5/8" seam around the top, but leave 1-2 inches open, so that you can pull your scarf right-side-out.
Be sure to backstitch so the seam doesn't come out. Almost there!
Pull the scarf right-side-out through the hole. This may be frustrating if your hole is too small
for the fabric to be pulled through. Don't pull too hard or you'll tear the fabric/seam.
Once you've pulled your scarf right-side-out, blind stitch the hole up with your needle and thread.
And you're done!
Stay warm! xoxo
