DIY: Fishtail Skirt!

Today's How-To: Fishtail Skirt

Why pay $10 extra for less fabric and more trend? Do it yourself! It's super easy:
-First, go shopping! Almost every thrift store I've ever been to has had long grandma skirts for cheaper than a cup of coffee. Pick out one that has a lot of movement and body. Then try on the skirt.
Next, figure out how short you want the front to be. Be sure to keep in mind about 1inch worth will be taken up when hemming.
Then, take off the skirt and fold the it back to front (as displayed) so that the front middle of your skirt is one point, and the back where the tag is, is the other point.
Lay down the skirt so that the bottom is spread out.
Now cut a straight line about 13-15 inches in from the front point of your skirt.
Once you've cut your straight line, start to move your cut down the skirt in a diagonal line.
Now try your skirt back on to make sure your cut is straight in the front and tapers down how you want it to. You may find you need to round off the bottom a little or trim a piece here and there.
Once you've made your final cuts, simply hem the bottom so it doesn't fray and you're done!

Finally A Moments Time

Ah! It has been far too long since I last posted! I've just been so busy with a new semester at school, a very intensive job search, friends, family, and fitting sleep into all of that! We all have times like that, and I realized that my hair was struggling to keep up. Especially with the crazy weather we've been having here in Wilmington. So today I stopped and took a little me-time for some TLC for my locks of love:
All it took for this look was:
1.Two snake braids, pinned from the front of my part to the back of my head
2. Tightly braided the rest of my hair in the back
3. Wrapped it into a bun, pinned it, and voilĂ !
Safety from the wind and frizz in only 7-minutes!

Let Your Hair Down

What a great weekend it has been! Early Saturday morning bike ride, dreamy photo shoot Downtown, haircut, being serenaded to by my love, friends, sleepovers, and The Help. Busy is an understatement! Here's a few shots from my photo shoot with Repunzel:

Today Was The Day

This is the aftermath of boredom, make-up, messy hair, and shameless mirror pictures of myself.

My Parents Were Awesome

Alright, I officially have the best old photos ever. This is my parents in the early 1980s. They're so cute and in love. I don't know why, but old pictures of couples always seem so much sweeter than ones people take today. Maybe it's because it was film and they couldn't delete it and take a better one. Or maybe it's because they weren't even posing for a picture, they were just already being that sweet towards one another. Or perhaps it is because it makes young love possible. It can happen, I know first hand. Unfortunately though, I feel like young people today don't believe in real love as their parents had when they were their age. For them, anything was possible. For people today, it's as if all we are is robots confined to simple, black-and-white logic, when there are so many more colours that make up the life created for us to enjoy. So with this, I encourage everyone to paint their lives the richest of reds, the brightest of blues, the sweetest of greens and all other colours of the spectrum. Do not forget that your life is your richest work of art.
"That it will never come again
is what makes life so sweet."

Villa Verde, Heyrocco, & Nelson the Hippo.

Over the weekend I was able to hear three simply AMAZING bands play at The Soapbox Laundro-Lounge. One of which was my dashing boyfriend's band, Villa Verde, a brand new Indie/Rock band falling somewhere in between Kings of Leon and Local Natives. They are brilliant, and not just because the lead singer is my boyfriend! The other two bands were Heyrocco and Nelson the Hippo., both based out of Charleston, SC. Nelson the Hippo. is Heyrocco's second band. Although it's the same guys, the sound is completely different, clearly showing their musical talent and ability. It was SUCH a great show and loads of fun hanging out with all of them. I only wish more people had known about it so they could come out and support all the guys. Here's a few snaps of what Wilmington missed:

 Villa Verde-

She Painted It Red

This past Saturday my best friend Abby and I woke up with a mission. We wanted to find some hot concert outfits for that night, because our amazingly talented boyfriends from Villa Verde were kicking off the new year right by playing a show with Charleston's very own Heyrocco! So after four hours of jamming out to Kings of Leon we set out for the Salvation Army and Vintage Values in Downtown Wilmington. We found the best deals! I bought two skirts, two shirts, AND a little black dress for under $20! I absolutely LOVED Abby's finds and thought I'd share what she wore:

First Post! First Post!

First post! Yay! I found it only appropriate that I post a picture from my first photo-shoot to tag along. This is a friend of mine, Sarah. She's so tiny and adorable. And trendy- check out that Grandfather of the Aztec Sweater she's sporting. It's crazy to think that only about a year ago I got my Canon Rebel film camera. I'm so in love with photography now.
