Carving Bark

Finally the warmth has come to stay! I've been a busy bee. School, work, other tedious obligations. You all know that sob story. A quick update on my life:

I'm doing summer school (mleh), but it's only a month long! However it's really hard and I'll probably cry once a day but it's okay. I'll be graduating in December, a whole semester early (holler praise Jesus).

As for work I'm going on year three as a maid on a few of the islands around town. It's really great, but I only say that when I'm not working. It's kind of like in Blue Crush where they all make fun of the wealthy people they clean for, eat their food, but then also have to clean up the post-wedding party vom off the bathroom floor. So you win some and you lose some.

I haven't really shot much since shooting with Lindsay Benton, but I've got a fun lil somethin' somethin' planned for the next week or so with a 70s-Lords-of-Dogtown-beach fox, so that's exciting. I've had some inspiration brewing the past few months via my artistically inclined peers and the sun shining a little brighter and I'm really feeling drawn to some new projects. If I'm going to be drowning in schoolwork I might as well make pretty things while I procrastinate doing it!

A few Sunday's ago Dylan and I walked the trail in Poplar Grove Plantation because it was too gorgeous not to. I had missed the warm breeze and toasted skin of last Spring. I felt so relieved to have it back. Everything's so green and fresh. My bedroom windows have officially been opened for the Summer. It's been a good first few weeks of the season.

All Lined Up

I absolutely cannot believe all of the young talent growing up in this town! Today I shot with Lindsay Benton, a 14-year-old (that's right, 14) complete natural in front of the camera. She's only done a couple of other shoots before and she was already so on point! Shooting with this fox was a total catch. Here's a sneak peek from today's session. You'll definitely be seeing more of her in the future if I have anything to say about it!

Family Reunion

I absolutely love these gals. We all go back to elementary school, and even now with completely different lives- even Sully living across the state- we still manage to love and laugh with one another. Real friendship right there. How much I cherish each one of them. All three of them are so beautiful. I have so much to be thankful for and so many blessings to count.

Spring Beginnings

  Ah, yet again, it's been a while. I don't know why I haven't been posting. Of course the same things are keeping me busy, but this is something I love doing. I suppose I've been avoiding it because I've been trying to figure out what I want to do with the next few years of my life.

  I don't think I'm cut out for making a business of my photography. I love it, and will continue to do small projects and still would love to shoot for others, but I've realized my heart is not all-in for the lifestyle. A professional photographer I assisted last year warned me of how cut-throat and independent one must be in order to be successful. I didn't believe him. Now I do and have realized I'm not cut out for it. It's just not me. I love photography for the art and for the experiences that come along with it. I don't want to rely on it in order to make a living, for fear of hardening my heart.

  So, that's off my chest. Believe me, I will still be shooting and will gladly accept clients! I just wanted to be honest about where I am. Anyway, here's to new beginnings. Just in time for Spring.
