Pressing Flowers

Since it's a rainy day outside I decided to bring the outdoors indoors and started the journey of pressing flowers. I pressed a couple a few weeks ago and was so happy to rediscover them in their new forms this morning. So pretty and delicate. So this time I grabbed all I could carry in one hand before the rain started up again. Since they were a little wet already I pressed them in between newspaper to help extract the water. Tomorrow I'll press them between wax paper and let the weight of Nylon and Jane Austen work their magic. I'm so excited to see how they turn out!

Spring Beginnings

Ah, yet again, it's been a while. I don't know why I haven't been posting. Of course the same things are keeping me busy, but this is something I love doing. I suppose I've been avoiding it because I've been trying to figure out what I want to do with the next few years of my life.

I don't think I'm cut out for making a business of my photography. I love it, and will continue to do small projects and still would love to shoot for others, but I've realized my heart is not all-in for the lifestyle. A professional photographer I assisted last year warned me of how cut-throat and independent one must be in order to be successful. I didn't believe him. Now I do and have realized I'm not cut out for it. It's just not me. I love photography for the art and for the experiences that come along with it. I don't want to rely on it in order to make a living, for fear of hardening my heart.

So, that's off my chest. Believe me, I will still be shooting and will gladly accept clients! I just wanted to be honest about where I am. Anyway, here's to new beginnings. Just in time for Spring.

Wildflowers

Is it possible to not fall deeply in love with the gorgeous strawberry blonde that is Victoria Jarman? Probably not. She's like the cherry on top of a sundae. What's mind blowing is not only is she incredibly beautiful on the exterior, she's got the personality to match. Such a sweetheart! I had so much fun running around barefoot with her during our shoot last weekend. Go ahead, fall head over heels for her.

Heart Phases

As I was taking this picture yesterday my camera died right after the shutter. I was so disappointed because the rising sun had just peaked over the horizon and made the dew start to glow. It was beautiful; but of course I didn't have time to charge my camera before I had to leave for class. The minute I got home I looked over to the tree and knew it would never be as pretty as it had been that morning. There was something about the light and the fog all mixed together that made it look magical. I went inside and turned on my camera, almost positive there wasn't a picture of it. And here it was! My own little snippet of time that I'll never forget. I was surprised it even came out. Although the picture cannot do it any justice, I still love it. Watching the phases of flowers come and go so quick have reminded me of how beautiful life is; the whole process. Its simply breathtaking.
